Bainbridge is a city on an island in the Puget Sound to the west of Seattle. Thanks to a ferry system, locals can travel from Seattle to Bainbridge Island in around 35 minutes. The island has a beautiful natural landscape with large coastal parks, waterfront trails, and forested nature reserves. Other attractions include the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
Winslow Village is the central hub of Bainbridge Island. This downtown area of the island offers stylish contemporary condominium complexes close to many shops and restaurants. Downtown Winslow is Bainbridge Island’s central hub of shopping and dining. Located beside Eagle Harbor on the east side of the central part of the island, this area offers a mix of independent local shops and restaurants.
The Harbour Public House combines locally sourced pub grub with mesmerizing waterfront views in a converted 1880s home. The menu includes a signature New England-style chowder, Belgian-style mussels in beer, and delicious fish and chips made with line-caught Alaskan cod. Doc’s Marina Grill is another Winslow waterfront hotspot for dinner and drinks. Here you can enjoy ten varieties of draft beer and specialty martinis alongside all-natural, half-pound burgers, Italian-style pasta dishes, rockfish tacos, and grilled New York strip steak.
The Bainbridge Brewing Alehouse offers 18 microbrews on tap, plus wines and craft ciders from around the Northwest, Oregon, and California. Ba Sa serves braised catfish, long-simmered pho, and other authentic Vietnamese dishes. There are also classic American breakfast and brunch plates at The Madison Diner, inventive sushi rolls and other Japanese dishes at SuBI, and flavorful Mexican dishes at Isla Bonita. If you’re craving something sweet, Mora Iced Creamery offers tasty homemade ice cream and sorbet by the pint, as well as shakes and other desserts.
Things to Do
Bainbridge Island features many scenic areas for outdoor recreation. The 150-acre Bloedel Reserve is a beautiful forest garden with lakes, lawns, a stone garden, and a rhododendron glen laid out in a style inspired by the tranquility of traditional Japanese gardens. The 17-acre Fay Bainbridge Park offers campgrounds and beaches along 1,420 feet of Puget Sound shoreline. One of this park’s main attractions is the stunning views across the Puget Sound to the Cascade Mountains.
Hawley Cove Park covers an 11.7-acre area of upland forest and wetland with a 600-feet boardwalk running along the Eagle Harbor shoreline. In downtown Winslow, the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art displays rotating contemporary art exhibits focusing on regional artists. The nearby Kids Discovery Museum features fun, interactive exhibits encouraging children to learn through play.
